Part of this problem is due to the design of early bathtubs, because tub manufacturers in the 1920s didn’t realize they needed a flange and to have it extend further around the tub. Both the wall studs and the floor joists under the tub were completely rotten in some areas. Magic Moulding was used to create the missing tub / tile flange all the way around the tub before the wood lathes and walls were replaced. A more effective Shower Splash Guard was also made from the same Magic Moulding to help keep water off the refinished floor.
