After an absence of many years, the #29 2-8-0 steam locomotive returned to the Virginia and Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, Nevada. This video is Part 1 of ‘Steam’s Back’ showing Fireman Ed getting the locomotive ready to come out of the shop. Part 2 will show a test run, Part 3 will show a revenue run.
On June 20, 2008 the final tests were done on the steam locomotive #29 at the Virginia and Truckee Railroad in Virginia City, Nevada. Here’s part 2 of Steam’s Back, a test run of the #29. This is the last in a five part series showing a tourist railroad train from the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. On July 5 and 6, 2008, the newly returned #29 steam locomotive led the passenger train on the new track built by the Nevada State Commission for the Reconstruction of the Virginia and Truckee Railway. This video shows the first steam train ever to run revenue service on the new tracks past Gold Hill, Nevada.
